JCVD A.K.A The Muscles From Brussels

“Pop quiz hotshot”, What is the best thing to come out of Belgium? Trappist ale is good guess, but the answer is clearly action all-star Jean-Claud Van Damme. Mr. Damme has starred in over thirty films and can literally perform disgusting, mind boggling splits. The only problem is that he has never overcome one major crux in his career; all of his films suck. But his luck may change with his new film, the unpretentiously titled “JCVD”.

I have no idea what this movie is about, but I assume it lies somewhere between comedic black comedy sarcasm, hard boiled action, and self-deprecation of his ludicrous persona. Evidence of the latter can be found in the line delivered by his onscreen daughter, “Everytime my dad is on TV, my friends make fun of me.” The trailer is funny, bizzare, and foreign, so it must be good. The official synopsis reads:

Problem with tax, problem with legal battle for custody of his daughter, problem with his career at a standstill, Jean-Claude Van Damme left the frenzy of Los Angeles for Brussels, morale-mast. In Belgium he thinks be quiet but the day will be very, very long…
