Two interesting independent film stories came out today:
The first involves the purchase of Robert Redford’s Sundance Channel for $496 million by Cablevision Systems, who also owns IFC. Read the story here.
/Film is reporting that the Criterion Collection, the company that restores and releases contemporary and classic films, will start releasing films on Blue Ray Disc. Some notable examples from the first batch of releases include, “The Third Man”, “The 400 Blows”, and “Bottle Rocket”. How releasing a 1940′s black and white film on today’s highest video quality technology will have any impact on the viewer’s experience, I have no idea. But I am sure there are films buffs all over the world freaking out. View the full story here or view the other films the collection has to offer.
